Sonohysterography in the Diagnosis of Uterine Abnormalities Abstract
Vincent YT CHEUNG
Sonohysterography, a relatively new imaging technique for the assessment of the endometrial cavity, has been widely used in the evaluation of patients with abnormal uterine bleeding. It involves the installation of normal saline into the endometrial cavity followed by transvaginal ultrasound examination of the uterus. The distension of endometrial cavity improves visualization of the endometrial lining and therefore enhances the ability to detect intrauterine pathology compared to conventional transvaginal sonography. This article outlines the indications and technique of sonohysterography. The clinical value of sonohysterography as applied to various gynaecological conditions will also be discussed.
